Indiana was the 19th state admitted into the union. It is located in the Midwestern region of the United States. The Calumet region is the largest steel producing area in the U.S. Indiana also manufactures pharmaceuticals, automobiles, electrical equipment, transportation equipment, chemical products, rubber, petroleum and coal products, and factory machinery. Indiana commercial real estate is home to international headquarters for the companies Eli Lilly and Mead Johnson Nutritional. Indiana is also becoming a leading state in the production of bio fuels, such as ethanol and biodiesel. The state has 12 ethanol and 4 biodiesel plants.

Indianapolis is the main commercial market in the state of Indiana. The Indianapolis economy is continuing to outperform other metropolitan areas in surrounding states. The low office rents are attracting businesses and professionals from all over to relocate, open or expand their businesses with commercial real estate in Indiana. Commercial construction continues in industrial, retail, and office providing the area with many new opportunities. The office market has grown to over 30.6 million square feet. Office vacancy increased to 16.9 percent and the overall net absorption was 371,000 square feet. The retail market has also remained strong and many new developments have added to its success.
