The vital downtown area serves as the hub of retailing with major shopping centers conveniently located throughout the area. In downtown Portland, three major department stores (Macy's, Nordstrom and Saks Fifth Avenue) can be found within walking distance of each other. Downtown is also home to Pioneer Place, a large indoor shopping mall, as well as many other standalone national and local stores that fit every taste and budget.

Retail space in the Portland area presents an innovative opportunity for long term investment. Over the longer-term, demand growth for Portland retail space will continue. Many forecast that Downtown Portland has the potential for approximately $200 million in additional retail sales growth from 2005 to 2015. To realize this level of volume increase, new retail development in the 600,000 to 650,000 square foot size range will be required.
